Since Pub view is gone so are the templates that were associated with it. Office 2008 & 2011 included Publishing Layout View which has been excised from the Office 2016 release for all the reasons you mention. How can I continue to create a similar quality newsletter but with the new Office system? And is there a way to continue working on the old templates without the formatting going berserk? It's very glitchy and taking longer than using my very old and very slow computer, which is defeating the purpose of having a new computer at all. Text boxes are now splitting themselves into tons of text boxes, with each line of text in its own box rather than the whole paragraph in one box. And when I open a previous newsletter, the formatting is insane. Unfortunately, I am having a lot of difficulty accessing the same variety of newsletter templates in the new Word application. Next, I opened Pages and selected the “Informal Newsletter” template.

I got a new computer and upgraded to the new Microsoft Office 2016. I create a monthly newsletter for work, and often reformat the previous month's and save it for the next month.
